چکیده
The purpose of this study was to examine the impact hydrophobicity, surface chemistry and topography on bacterial microalgal adhesion. To end, effects plasma treatments (argon (Ar) tetrafluorocarbon (CF 4 )) polycarbonate substrates bioadhesion were investigated in vitro. Surfaces characterized by goniometry, atomic force microscopy X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Two marine strains, a hydrophobic Pseudoalteromonas sp. 5M6 hydrophilic Paracoccus 4M6, two microalgae (Cylindrotheca closterium Porphyridium purpureum) involved biofouling selected. Their adhesion onto observed quantified using confocal laser scanning microscopy–microfluidic flow cells. It demonstrated that combination three parameters – namely, energy, fluorination nanotopography significantly decreases microorganisms out four (Pseudoalteromonas 5M6, C. P. purpureum), whereas one parameter its own is insufficient.

Economic impact of biofouling on a naval surface ship.
In the present study, the overall economic impact of hull fouling on a mid-sized naval surface ship (Arleigh Burke-class destroyer DDG-51) has been analyzed. A range of costs associated with hull fouling was examined, including expenditures for fuel, hull coatings, hull coating application and removal, and hull cleaning. The results indicate that the primary cost associated with fouling is due ...
متن کاملDomain Structures in Nematic Liquid Crystals on a Polycarbonate Surface
Alignment of nematic liquid crystals on polycarbonate films obtained with the use of solvents with different solvations is studied. Domain structures occurring during the growth on the polymer surface against the background of the initial thread-like or schlieren texture are demonstrated. It is established by optical methods that the domains are stable formations visualizing the polymer surface...
متن کاملSurface modification of polycarbonate (bisphenol A) by low pressure rf plasma
Effects of low pressure radio frequency (rf) plasma treatment on the surface properties of polycarbonate are presented in this paper. Results obtained from the surface energy measurement after different conditions of treatment are compared. After treatment the surface free energy increased from the original value of 35 mJ/m2 to 63-74 mJ/m2. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements showed a...
متن کاملEnvironmentally Responsive Block Copolymers as Anti-biofouling Surfaces
Biofouling of ship-hulls is a problem of significant economic and environmental consequences. The accumulation of ‘slimes’ of microorganisms such as bacteria, green algae and diatoms, followed by the attachment of macroorganisms such as hydroids, sponges and barnacles, causes increased frictional drag on ships, higher consumption of fuel, and greater emission of greenhouse gases [1]. That marin...
متن کاملLiquid-infused structured surfaces with exceptional anti-biofouling performance.
Bacteria primarily exist in robust, surface-associated communities known as biofilms, ubiquitous in both natural and anthropogenic environments. Mature biofilms resist a wide range of antimicrobial treatments and pose persistent pathogenic threats. Treatment of adherent biofilm is difficult, costly, and, in medical systems such as catheters or implants, frequently impossible. At the same time, ...
